Photography Studios
Antonina Gugala explores different approaches to studio portrait photography. In view of the predicted disappearance of the trade, the artist documented the shop windows of over 80 studios still active in Warsaw and sat for a passport photograph in each of them. Though considered the most basic type of portrait, a passport photograph nonetheless reflects each photographer’s own style. In Vevey, her Photography Studios series was shown in a room adjacent to one of the town’s oldest photography laboratories, which ceased activity in 2018 after 70 years of trade, and that had Charlie Chaplin and his family as clients.
