Fictitious Dishes: An Album of Literature’s Most Memorable Meals

In her book Fictitious Dishes: An Album of Literature’s Most Memorable Meals, Dinah Fried pictured approximately fifty meals as described by some of the finest writers. From Proust’s madeleines to Madame Bovary’s “gâteau de Savoie” or Lolita’s gin-pineapple cocktail, she reproduced the original text and recreated the exact atmosphere and table setting for these dishes. The series was presented at the Hôtel des Trois Couronnes in the form of placemats, so diners could enjoy their meal while reminiscing about these anthological novels.
