Nuisibles
Currently a Bachelor student in Photography at ECAL/Ecole Cantonale d’Art de Lausanne, Elisa Ribeiro sheds light on an unexpected aspect of winemaking. She uses an electron microscope to create a gallery of portraits of insect pests in the grapevines. Re-appropriating scientific tools for artistic purposes, her work questions the very basis of the photographic image as here the shooting process uses an electron beam. Exhibited in the Confrérie des Vignerons in large light boxes evoking the lighting used for microscopic observation, the tiny pests comprising her Nuisibles series seem like giant monsters.
