Hiding in the City
Hiding in the City
Liu Bolin uses his body as a living sculpture to blend into his photographs like a chameleon, wearing clothes and make-up to suit the background colors against which he stands. With the aim of matching the photographs with their exhibition venue, Festival Images reproduced a dozen images from his Hiding in the City series in monumental format – one of them approximately 500 m2 – and displayed them on various facades and streets in Vevey. Seen in such large scale, the work allowed viewers to acknowledge the overwhelming presence of images in the public sphere and how they are used by economic and political powers.
