Martin Parr & The Anonymous Project

The sense of déjà vu, that unnerving feeling of having been in a particular situation before, lies at the heart of the exquisite pairing of the famous British photographer Martin Parr with The Anonymous Project, a vast undertaking to collect photographic archives, initiated by filmmaker Lee Shulman in 2017. Déjà View juxtaposes Martin Parr’s snapshots with images selected from the thousands of anonymous colour slides that comprise The Anonymous Project. The pairs of photographs, all taken between the 1950s and 1980s, reveal formal similarities, and analogy in their subject matter.

This tongue-in-cheek series tempts us to play ‘spot the difference’ between the photos, presented two by two on Vevey’s Place de la Gare.
