Marche sur mes yeux

In his Marche sur mes yeux series, initiated during Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s election in 2005, Paolo Woods addressed national identity and the occasional conflicting relationship between tradition and desire for freedom in Iran. Reaching beyond the usual boundaries of documentary practice, the photographer deliberately dismisses the stereotypes about the country to bring forth its diversity. The extravagant, daring and at times insolent Iranians open up to the viewers and invite them to consider the theatrical, com-plex and heterogeneous nature of Persian society.
