The Ad Libitum project mixes together reality and fiction, image and narrative. Pierre-Philippe Hofmann shot short films in still frames showing scenes from ordinary life, while Mathias Domahidy (Switzerland, 1978) handled post-production, directing with an off-camera voice-over the movements of passers-by who thus became the unsuspecting actors of a film. For the Biennale Images Vevey, a portable cinema allowed visitors to discover a sequence filmed on a winter morning on Vevey’s dock, on the very same spot where it was recorded and from the same angle.
