Pierrick sur la Lune

For the Biennale Images Vevey, Pierrick Sorin conceived his first life-size “optical theater” in which he reenacted Neil Armstrong’s first steps on the Moon in 1969. Visitors found themselves in a film studio of a lunar landscape with real objects, a blue screen and a moving life-size hologram of an astronaut simulating burlesque movements in weightlessness. Further on, an old CRT television monitor broadcast the scene in scrambled images. Presented in a theater auditorium, the Pierrick sur la Lune installation called into question the making of these historical images while paying tribute to the “giant leap for mankind”.
