A Travel without Visual Experience & Breathing in a House
For the Biennale Images Vevey, Sheung Chuen Pak presented two installations drawn from his performances. For A Travel without Visual Experience, the Hong Kong artist blindfolded himself during a group trip to Malaysia and took photographs of his journey – the camera thus substituting for his sight. Festival viewers were plunged into complete darkness and had to action the flash of his camera to discover his photographs, just for a fraction of a second. His other installation, Breathing in a House, recounts 10 days during which the artist locked himself up in a small apartment and collected all the air he was expiring into plastic bags, until they filled up his living space.
