A long-term project, Leaving and Waving explores the special bond between parents and their child becoming adult. In 1991, Deanna Dikeman took a photo of her parents as they waved goodbye to her. Following a protocol that became a ritual, Dikeman photographed her parents each time in front of their home, from her car, at every visit. In 2017, she ended this series, which had lasted twenty-seven years, by photographing the family home and the empty driveway. This visual chronology bears witness to parental love and the fleeting nature of life.
