Started in 2001, Fundos evokes various minimalist rooms. Lucia Koch actually photographs the inside of empty cardboard boxes and packaging. Through subtle trompe-l’oeil effects, the series subverts objects often overlooked that accompany daily life in every household. Koch explores how a space becomes a place, shaped by the stories of the people who inhabit it. On the facade of the former prison, the installation juxtaposes carceral architecture with the childlike poetry of a hut, offering a glimpse of the sky, a symbol of freedom.
