The word imilla means “young girl” in the two primary Indigenous languages in Bolivia. This is the term adopted by a collective of Bolivian skateboarders, who choose to wear traditional polleras skirts. Between posed portraits and street scenes, Luisa Dörr’s photographs bring out the collective energy of the skater girls. Displayed on a facade and in a skatepark, the installation paints a portrait of a community that has become a chosen family, celebrating the power of sisterhood.
