The word imilla means “young girl” in the two primary Indigenous languages in Bolivia. This is the term adopted by a collective of Bolivian skateboarders, who choose to wear traditional polleras skirts. Between posed portraits and street scenes, Luisa Dörr’s photographs capture the collective energy of these women. Displayed on a façade and in a skatepark, the installation paints a portrait of a community that has become a chosen family, celebrating the power of sisterhood.
