In the installation Isolated Figures, Mark Wallinger depicts six city dwellers absorbed in their screens and daily routines. In 2020, the artist searched online image banks for specific portraits that seemed universal. Turning on their axes, these anonymous silhouettes are both funny and mundane. Between solitude and hyperconnectivity, Isolated Figures humorously questions our ability to recognize ourselves in these archetypes and to maintain our connections in an all-digital age.
