In the installation Isolated Figures, Mark Wallinger stages six city dwellers absorbed in their screens and daily routines. In 2020, the artist searched online image banks for specific portraits that seemed universal. Spinning in place, these anonymous silhouettes are both funny and mundane. Between solitude and hyperconnectivity, Isolated Figures playfully questions our ability to recognize ourselves in these archetypes and to maintain our connections in an all-digital age.
