Undercover Pleasures takes its name from the sex shop that Pacifico Silano’s parents ran in New Jersey when he was a teenager. Drawing inspiration from his personal history, the artist has created an installation that evokes the interior of the shop. He also reappropriates gay erotic magazines from the 1970s and 1980s to create multi-layered collages. This installation pays tribute to his uncle, who died from AIDS-related complications, and to his mother, who sacrificed herself for her loved ones. Between exhibition and concealment, the project offers an intimate reflection on loss, family and sexuality, while celebrating the LGBTQIA+ community.
