7abbat al Rummana – Amira Temmar

Amira Temmar’s project 7abbat al Rummana explores the everyday life of a large family in Switzerland, between Algerian heritage, Swiss culture and the practice of Islam.

Through photography, text and spatial installation, the artist explores cultural signs that are sometimes invisible, erased or transformed by histories of colonisation, migration and transmission. The series depicts the everyday gestures of a family of seven children, while bringing French and Darija into dialogue, allowing the different layers of this family history to emerge. Presented around a sofa and a coffee table, the installation invites the viewer to take a seat and enter into a play of intersecting gazes, where the intimate becomes the starting point for a reflection on identity, family lineage and transmission.
